The only problem with feelings of flying high…

Friday, July 31st, 2009

…is that one must come back to earth eventually. And as my heights may be higher than the standard, the lows can be lower.
Doing okay though: thanks be to God. Just need to stop unhelpful thoughts in their tracks and not entertain them — because then they take over.
Lord, have mercy.

Monasteries – Ninotsminda, Bodbe, Khirsa and Natlismtsemeli

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

While Davit Gareji was the most challenging and inspirational monastery visited for me, that is not to suggest the others had no impact on me: for they did. I will split the other monasteries visited into several posts and try and be brief for the sake of the sanity of any readers. If [...]

As a comparison…a bit shorter: and slightly modified in its look.
Old:

New:

Paint Testing:

Still pondering if the brown is too dark: may go for something a bit lighter. But then again: I like the contrast.
[And yes: neatness and keeping between the lines -- FAIL! Hope to do better on the 'real' job.]

Davit Gareji

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

Founded by St Davit [one of the thirteen Assyrian Fathers who travelled to Georgia in the 6th century], with his disciples Ss Dodo and Lukiane, the Davit Gareji monastery complex [click here for a map of all the monasteries: we visited Lavra and Udabno] was, for me, one of the most moving parts of the [...]

Weekend Happenings

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

Had my prescription checked [no change] and bought a new pair of glasses — wanted to get back at least some of what I pay for health insurance.
Went to the home of 2 parishioners for our monthly Parish Cooking Class — a social function to help us get to know each other and to [...]

Changes III

I feel like a toff saying this, but I had a preliminary meeting with a Financial Planner today. I am guessing it is not as uncommon as I may think, but it has never featured in my universe –thinking they were for the very well off or those at least with some money and [...]

Fünf tausend neue deutsche Wörter

Thursday, July 23rd, 2009

I am sure Kerensa is out buying the latest Duden, a German dictionary first published in 1880. The BBC reports [I heard it on the World Service last night] of almost 5,000 words added to the German language in the latest Duden; Deutch Welle’s report adds that Wahrig, another “Deutsches Wörterbuch” [German Dictionary: please [...]

Christmas in July

Wednesday, July 22nd, 2009

But first: thank you all for your comments on the post below — I have responded to them individually there. I feel so humbled by your sharing and the love and concern here, and blessed to be here and know you all, whether virtually or in person: and for those I only know virtually [...]

Changes II

Tuesday, July 21st, 2009

Barely a week ago I wrote I was moving into a Masters of Business in Information Technology Management. Now: I am not sure.
As someone with a low view of himself, as well as no direction in work life [perhaps related?], when it was suggested to me I may do well in such a direction, [...]

Back on goes the weight…

Monday, July 20th, 2009

Wednesday evening: Christmas in July function through work for and the Macarthur Chamber of Commerce at Gledswood Homestead and Winery.
[incidentally, where we are having my mum's 60th in September]
[edit: due to us not filling a table with staff [what anti-social people! ], I had the pleasure of being able to ask Semele if [...]
