The end of daylight savings here in NSW has been pushed back one week until next week. And, I will say its effects on the IT systems here puts Y2K into the shade.
Perhaps as we were (over?-)prepared for Y2K, and this, supposedly minor, issue, didn’t appear to make the headlines. Who knows. [...]

Troparion (Tone 1):
O Lord, save Your people,
and bless Your inheritance.
Grant victories to Your people
over their adversaries.
And by virtue of Your Cross
preserve Your habitation!
Kontakion (Tone 7):
No longer does the flaming sword guard the gate of Eden,
for a marvelous quenching is come upon it, even the Tree of the Cross.
The sting has been taken from death, and [...]

Thank you for the birthday wishes: all much appreciated and valued.
I received two nice books from the parents — I Peed on Fellini by Australian movie critic David Stratton and Gittinomics by economics writer Ross Gittins. Ross Gittins makes economics even understandable to someone like me, and I am always happy to read his [...]

I am 31 tomorrow. Hurrah.
A nice surprise at work today: colleagues bought a cake each for me and a woman whose birthday is Sunday; we also got cards with lovely comments on them.
There may be frustrations at work, but colleagues are definitely not one of them: I am truly blessed to work with truly [...]

My sister found out the gender of the baby due in late August: I am to be an uncle to niece #2.
My assistant at work’s wife is having a baby today too — one week late and I believe they are inducing her today. Their first, and he has been very excited of late: [...]

Yikes.
The nice fellow at the store got them down to $300.
Still yikes.
Granted, I was only about five months in to my contract, but still. I have been [...]

Some more hymongraphy from the service of Great Compline:
O Lord, you know the wakefulness of my enemies, and the weakness of my miserable flesh, for you made man. Wherefore, into your hands I shall entrust my spirit. Cover me with the wings of your goodness, lest I sleep unto death; illumine my inner eyes with [...]

A week ago I posted this post about revelations in The Sydney Morning Herald about Mercy Ministries.
A director of Mercy Ministries has an article published in the Herald today — click here to read it. I admit I may’ve jumped on the bandwagon too quickly, but I still do believe there are some concerns [...]

Tomorrow [March 25], nine months before the Nativity of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ [Christmas], we in the Orthodox Church commemorate the Annunciation to the Virgin Mary by the Archangel Gabriel.
Troparion – Tone 4:
Today is the beginning of our salvation,
The revelation of the eternal mystery!
The Son of God becomes the Son of the Virgin
As [...]

It’s been a while since my last bike ride: and it was great to get out there again. I won’t deny me legs were hurting something terrible towards the end, and I will admit to frustration that somewhere along the ride my phone popped out of my pocket [off to try and get a [...]
