I returned to the gym tonight: BodyCombat. Feeling very sore, but rather good. I find such classes a fun way to not only, God willing, get fit and lose some excess weight, but also to release any extra energy I have: particularly nervous energy. I was feeling a bit jumpy today and [...]

I’ve signed up for an 8-week vocal training course at a Community College to see if I may be able to inflict my voice on our parishioners as part of the choir. Classes start tonight. If you are in Sydney, best to make sure you, and any cats, stay away from the general [...]

A particularly blessed Divine Liturgy today: we knew we had Archimandrite Themi from the St Clement of Alexandria Mission in Kenya visiting us; we also had Father Deacon Raphael from St George’s Antiochian Church in Phoenix, Arizona.
Archimandrite Themi gave us a heart-wrenching, though also up-lifting, presentation on the state of the poor and those with [...]

As someone who loves travelling, and who would dearly love to get to Turkey, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe one day, among other destinations, I commend to you the recent posts from the blog Notes from a Common-place Book. …and I’m looking forward to a quiet one. I have Disc 2 of Simon Schama’s A History of Britain — I saw several episodes when it first screened here several years’ back: I’m enjoying watching the ones I missed, and the ones I saw again.
It will also be a weekend of reading. I [...]

* No spoilers *
I loved it: a great ending to a great series. Thank you J K Rowling for seven adventures full of fun, mystery and magic.
For those who have read it, spoilers and opinions-a-plenty at Ship of Fools on this thread.

As yesterday was the feast of St Elijah / Elias [on the New Calendar], after Divine Liturgy today Father stood outside, in full liturgical garb, blessing cars with the aspergill [instrument for sprinkling holy water in liturgical services] as they drove past — as we don’t have a church of our own, nor a car-park [...]

[I've got about 100 pages left of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: I'm off to see a movie, Lucky Miles, this afternoon so I should finish Harry tonight.]
A blessed Feast Day to all Marys named after Mary Magdalene! As that page states, like many Saints, among whom St Mary of Egypt is also [...]

We bounded up from fifth place after Round 2 to first after Round 3, the final and most difficult round, getting 8 out of 10 and scoring 24 points out of 30 — our highest score ever for that round. There was much rejoicing tonight.(*)
Those who were hoping for more pain and suffering in [...]
