Happy New Year!

Thursday, December 30th, 2004

Just over 13 hours to go here in Sydney town.
I’m off to a friend’s place tonight, where we will eat, drink, chat…and probably sing karoake and play board games. A quiet night by others’ standards perhaps, but I’m looking forward to spending it with good friends.
Wishing you all a blessed 2005! And may [...]

Pabassinos

Beautiful Sardinian biscuits brought in by my manager…home made. Mmmm. She’s offering me another…it would be rude to refuse, wouldn’t it?
Thanks to the reader who sent me two new links (see left) on prayer and liturgy. Very much appreciated.

Lord, have mercy.

In-depth news here.
Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy. Lord, have mercy.
Thanks be to God that aid is beginning to arrive; may it be distributed quickly and equitably.
I’m not one generally to push these things…but if you can spare anything, organisations such as Red Cross, Care Australia and World Vision are taking donations online. [...]

Returning a call to a certain Curate yesterday…
Me: Hello Reverend Father.
Revd Fr: Hello.
Me: Are you having a good time in Sydney?
Revd Fr: Yes.
Me: Unfortunately I can’t take you to K’s farewell tonight … I will be in the Hills District and going from there. I can take you home though.
Revd Fr: That’s good.
Me: Can [...]

Christ is Born! Glorify Him!

Sunday, December 26th, 2004

Today the Virgin gives birth to the Transcendent One,
And the earth offers a cave to the Unapproachable One!
Angels with shepherds glorify Him!
The wise men journey with a star!
Since for our sake the Eternal God was born as a Little Child!
Kontakion for the Third Day of the Nativity of our Lord
A joyful three days past indeed. [...]

The Nativity of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ

Thursday, December 23rd, 2004

To all out there, my warmest thanks to you for coming and visiting my little blog. I’ve been greatly encouraged, helped, and many times amused, by the comments you have provided as I’ve blogged my way through the second half of the year. And I thank you for this.
Wishing you, your friends and [...]

Eve of the Nativity of our Lord

Thursday, December 23rd, 2004

Troparion in tone 4
Mary was of David’s seed,
So she went with Joseph to register in Bethlehem.
She bore in her womb the Fruit not sown by man.
The time for the birth was at hand.
Since there was [...]

On Christmas Night, All Christians Sing

Thursday, December 23rd, 2004

Another joyful melody (thank you Ralph Vaughan Williams) accompanying a joyful song.
On Christmas night all Christians sing,
To hear the news the angels bring;
On Christmas night all Christians sing,
To hear the news the angels bring:
News of great joy, news of great mirth,
News of our merciful King's birth.
Then why should we on earth be sad,
Since our Redeemer [...]

Lord, have mercy

Wednesday, December 22nd, 2004

For I fail at every turn.
1 O Lord Almighty,
God of our ancestors,
of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob
and of their righteous offspring;
2 you who made heaven and earth
with all their order;
3 who shackled the sea by your word of command,
[...]
